What you can personalise

  • The pendant and finish: silver, or gold-plated steel.
  • The chain: length and style, so the ball sits where you want it.
  • Gemstone beads: chosen by colour, meaning or birthstone.
  • An engraved medal: in stainless steel or 925 silver, with a name, a date or a word.
  • Charms: small pendants beside the ball, such as a moon, a star, a wing or a tree of life.

Engraving ideas

A medal doesn’t have much space, so a short message works best.

  • A name or an initial

    The baby’s name, or just the first letter if you are keeping it quiet.

    Good if you are not telling anyone the name yet.

  • A date

    The due date, or the birth date after the baby arrives. In the UK, write it day first, such as 14.03.2027, and check it twice.

  • A single word

    Love, hope, welcome, “mum”, “mama”, or a word in another language that means something to your family.

  • A short line

    A few words for a gift: “Our little one”, “Always with you”.

Check spelling and the order of day and month before you place the order. Engraving is permanent.

Choosing stones

You can pick by colour, by what a stone traditionally stands for, or by birthstone. Many people choose the birthstone of the baby’s due month, and add the parents’ and siblings’ months. See pregnancy gemstones and their meanings and the birthstone guide.

  2. Type your personalisation in the box provided. Most listings have one.
  3. Check the spelling, then order.
  4. If you want something the listing doesn’t offer, send us a message on Etsy first.

Personalising a gift

Ask the mum-to-be or someone close to her which name she would like on it. If you are unsure, use an initial or a word. Personalised pieces are made for you, so check the shop’s returns policy on Etsy before you order. Because each piece is made to order, allow extra time before a birthday, a baby shower or Christmas.

Questions people ask

Can I engrave the baby’s name before the birth?

Yes, if you have chosen one. If you haven’t, an initial, the due date or a word such as “hope” is a good alternative.

How many letters fit on the medal?

It depends on the medal size. The listing gives the limit. Shorter text is easier to read.

Can I add a symbol or a heart?

Ask us first on Etsy. Tiny symbols don’t always engrave well.

How long does a personalised necklace take?

Each piece is made to order, so allow time for making as well as delivery. Estimates are on the Etsy listing.
